Investment risk

All investments carry risk. Before you invest, you should understand that:

  • the value of investments, and any income from them, can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you invested
  • past performance is not a guide to future returns
  • investments in a different currency from your own can rise or fall in value because of exchange rate movements
  • some investments, including some shares and sukuk, can be hard to sell quickly at a fair price
  • halal and Sharia-compliant investments carry investment risk like any other
